Call For Speakers: Visibility of the Invisible International Webinar - "Exploring Hidden Struggles in Mental Health"

The Malta Sociological Association is pleased to announce the 7th edition of its international webinar series “Visibility of the Invisible”, which will take place online on December 1st, 2025. The working language of the webinar will be English. 

This edition, titled “Exploring Hidden Struggles in Mental Health,” aims to highlight the less visible aspects of mental health challenges and social stigma. We invite 2 to 4 international speakers to share their knowledge, research, or personal perspectives on this important topic. We welcome proposals from sociologists, mental health professionals, researchers, educators, activists, and individuals with lived experience.

To apply, please send a short bio (up to 150 words) and a brief abstract of your proposed talk (up to 250 words) to maltasociologicalassociation@gmail.com by not later than 15 June 2025. Join us in making the invisible visible.

Visibility of the Invisible Seminar Series, 6th Edition

The 6th edition of “Visibility of the Invisible” seminar series, organised by the Malta Sociological Association, will be held on Monday 2 December at 6pm CET.  This annual event has been held since 2019 and takes place during the International Human Rights Month. This year's theme is “Volunteers – (in)visible resources.”

Join us to learn more about volunteer management, e-volunteering, challenges, current initiatives and international projects, invisible contributors and underappreciated efforts of volunteers in diverse sectors such as healthcare, education, disaster relief, and cultural events. 

Let’s celebrate International Volunteer Day through the promotion of volunteers' values, the spirit of volunteerism, and its transformative potential for individuals and communities, with our guest speakers from Malta, Cyprus, Romania, and Greece.

Our guest speakers will be: Dr. Daniela Vono de Vilhena from the Population Europe, the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Berlin; Ms. Gonca Kara from the Applied Research & Innovation Centre, MCAST, Malta and Mr. Robert Cilia, Caritas volunteer and practitioner in Adult Education.

VISIBILITY OF THE INVISIBLE – SOCIAL EXCLUSION AND ACCESS Speaker: Ljiljana Cumura

Ljiljana Cumura is a master in sociology, researcher and youth worker. Her expertise and research focuses are on sociology, methodology of teaching, disability politics, youth & community studies, participatory action research methodology, integration and migration. She implemented more than hundred projects and researches all over the Europe. Some of them are recognized as examples of good practice and are present in numerous scientific journals. Ljiljana holds ten awards for great impact in journalism, education, intercultural learning, music, documentary film, youth work, victimology and social welfare. She is visiting lecturer on VCC Academy Poland/CPS Academy Serbia for module “Project Management and EU Funds” and active member of Malta Sociological Association.
